MR7 - Ondes Visibles
Chosen out of 40 international artists to lit up the Grand Palais for its reopening (September 2006), I was commissioned a ground breaking light installation by the French State and Ministry of Culture.
Staging 20 giant angled mirrors and 2 Coronelli globes suspended in between mirrored plates, I created varying light phenomenon circling from the glass roof to the mirrored surface on the floor, and transformed the Historical monument into a space of sensorial memory. Over 17 days, some 500 000 visitors walked around, experiencing their own weightlessness inside the monumental structure.
« Feeling at peace with themselves, they looked up yearning for elevation ;
As if lost in gravity, they awoke to a new perception of the space.
And as Light became visible to their senses, they discovered new emotions and corners of themselves. »
This installation was made possible thanks to the support of FONDATION EDF.
