Lumières de Paris
Lumières de Paris is a permanent installation that was custom designed for the older building of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, adjacent to the Musée d’Orsay. Situated in between the Seine and an 18th Century interior courtyard that hosts a monolith created by Jean Dubuffet, the installation is set up inside a peristyle : closed at night by a gate, one can still admire the piece through it once it’s dark.
Composed of two large horizontal metallic boxes, which face each other, the first is torn numerous times from top to bottom in a chaotic way : through those tears, different tints of light come through ranging from light pink to lavender blue. Enclosed with a window pane, the second one welcomes a series of neon tubes separated by gap that are linked to non-revealed words, like a visual Braille. Enlivened with lavender, light pink, sky blue and amber hues, the tubes represent the colours of the Parisian sky in the eyes of one who has left.. as if a Parisian sunset over the Seine had poised inside the space. As if light remained captive inside the peristyle.
