"J’avais besoin de silence"
Linking the millenary heritage of I Ching – or Chinese-Korean writing – with the evocative power of Nansam - the Mountain of Light anchored in the heart of Seoul - the installation’s aim was to create a unifying element, an invisible link between culture and location.
Once at the top of the mountain, visitors discover an accumulation of mirrored panels positioned in the shape of a labyrinth. With four cardinal entries, the installation stages bi-coloured mirrors that create a symbolic progression towards light : finding their way amidst panels recreating the constitutive elements of the I Ching, all happens as though visitors were deciphering symbols of the Korean culture. Step y step, each visitor (re)discovers his own image while he paces through the labyrinth towards its centre, where he reaches a vertical beam of light. Directed towards the sky, the beam can be seen from the heart of the city. A symbolic installation.
